Cabela's Photo Shoot at Our Texas Guest Ranch

February 1st, 2012

Keep your eyes peeled for the summer edition of the Cabela’s catalog. You might recognize the scenery.

The marketing people at Cabela’s happened upon the BlissWood Website when they were searching for a location to photograph models for their summer catalog and fell in love with our Texas guest ranch instantly.

We hosted them for 10 days on the ranch and provided everything they needed to get the most memorable shots for their catalog, including our beautiful scenery, huge liveoaks, and a canoe (which you can now rent at BlissWood)!

We’re absolutely tickled that they chose to use our Texas guest ranch as the backdrop for their summer catalog and can’t wait to see the results.

What is Cabela’s?

In case you didn’t know, Cabela’s is the world’s foremost outfitter of hunting, fishing, and outdoor gear. They have over 30 stores in the US, including three right here in Texas as well as locations all over the world.

If you’ve ever been to one of their stores, you won’t soon forget the experience.

Think of it like a Disneyland for outdoor sporting enthusiasts. When you walk in the entrance, you’ll see a big hill that looks like the tip of a mountain with animals of various sizes all around it (stuffed, of course) and an aquarium filled with big mouth bass and trout and other game fish (these are the real deal).

We couldn’t show you any of the pictures we took with the models in them (you’ll have to wait for the summer catalog to see those), but here are a few behind-the-scene shots for you to enjoy.

Remember to look for this year’s summer catalog for the official shots taken at our Texas guest ranch!

Newborn calf and miniature donkey at our Texas guest ranch

January 5th, 2012

Calf Born on Texas Guest RanchWe were fortunate enough to celebrate Christmas this year with a special delivery from our very own Lehmann Legacy Ranch. On Christmas day, an adorable newborn “Black Baldy” calf was born.

Newborn “Black Baldy” Calf

A Black Baldy is a cross between a Hereford cow (dad) and a solid black breed, in this case, an Angus (mom). They are characterized by a white face similar to the Hereford and a black body like the Angus.

Black Baldy cows are known for their mothering abilities and other exceptional qualities brought on by hybrid vigor including black skin which protects the bare skin on the udder of the cow from sunburn.

And as anybody that’s been to our Texas guest ranch knows, we have no shortage of sun.

Newborn miniature donkey

The Black Baldy isn’t the only newborn we’ve had running around the ranch lately. Just a week prior, Carol received an early Christmas present from the ranch, a miniature female donkey named Cabella.

Miniature donkeys were originally developed on Sicily and Sardinia in the Mediterranean but are almost completely extinct there now.

If not for North American breeders, the miniature donkey may have gone extinct years ago. However, ever since the breed was introduced to the U.S. and Canada in the early 1990s, the number of miniature donkeys has remained strong and increasing.

What a great time of year to welcome new life into the world!

As we start the new year, we’ll sure be busy around here watching over our new additions.

Where to Propose in TexasSo you’re ready to take your relationship to the next level. Congratulations! Popping the question to that special someone is one of the most scary, exciting, romantic, nerve-racking, memorable moments you will ever experience.

You’re bending down on one knee and asking that person to spend their whole life with you—in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad, till death do you part. There’s no denying it’s a big deal.

No wonder you’re stressing about where to propose in Texas. There is certainly no shortage of beautiful places in this big state, so picking just one can seem a bit overwhelming.

Especially if you want to make your proposal a truly unforgettable event.

Propose in Texas at BlissWood B&B

We’d like to tell you about a young couple we hosted a few months back. They came to BlissWood Bed and Breakfast to celebrate their fourth-year anniversary of dating and to relax and unwind in the country.

What she didn’t know is that he was planning to propose at the end of their time at BlissWood.

While they were here, they stayed in the Lanai House at the Oasis, a tropical paradise among the rolling prairie of the Texas Hill Country, and enjoyed horseback riding and other activities.

It wasn’t until they shared a dinner at Carol’s Restaurant that he finally popped the big question. Of course, she said yes! The two of them will no doubt remember their time together at the ranch fondly for years to come.

If your searching for the perfect spot to propose in Texas, take a look at what we at BlissWood have to offer. We even have special Texas proposal packages available for the guy (or girl) that wants to take their proposal to the next level. Think flowers, a picnic, and a horseback ride to the Gazebo at Enchanted Lake.

English Couple Travels to Texas for an Elopement

December 14th, 2011

Here at BlissWood Bed and Breakfast, visitors from all over the world stop by to enjoy a little Texas hospitality and to enjoy the peaceful ambiance of this 650-acre working ranch. But we’re always surprised at how many of our foreign guests come from the United Kingdom.

In fact, just this last August, a young couple from England stopped by the ranch for a Texas-style elopement ceremony in the Gazebo at Enchanted Lake. They weren’t looking for anything big, just a quiet, peaceful ceremony in the country that they could share with their one and only guest—the bride’s angelic little daughter, seen proudly displaying her mother’s bouquet in several of the pictures below.

The wedding party stayed in the Log Cabin, a quaint 1800s-style cedar cabin complete with a wood-burning fireplace and antiques from the 19th Century. See the Log Cabin in the video below.

After the ceremony, the newly weds drove off in true American fashion—kicking up a cloud of dust in a bright red Ford Mustang convertible, their little girl in the backseat with her mother’s bouquet of pink roses held high.

All of us at BlissWood would like to congratulate this young couple and wish them happiness and contentment in their lives together.

Here are a few pictures of the ceremony:

Texas Ranch Wedding in the Rain

November 10th, 2011

Kassy Echols and Garrett Nemcik dreamed of the perfect Texas ranch wedding—a quiet, peaceful celebration of their love for one another shared under a big blue sky in the Texas Hill Country.

Unfortunately, the weather had different plans.

At exactly 4 p.m., when their Texas ranch wedding was scheduled to begin, rain started pouring from the grey clouds above. It was a bride’s worst nightmare, right?

You’d think so, but Kassy and Garrett took it all in stride. Despite the rain, the young couple had a beautiful ceremony and created memories that will last a lifetime. Their love for each other, and a few encouraging words from Carol, made it all work out in the end.
