Monday, August 2nd, 2010

Earlier this summer, our Texas bed and breakfast was selected to be a prize on the Wheel of Fortune. We were thrilled, and send out a shout of thanks to BedandBreakfast.com, which provides the vacation prizes for Wheel of Fortune.

We were disappointed no one won the holiday at our bed and breakfast Central Texas, for it would have been fun to host the lucky victor. Maybe next time! (more…)

We Like to Help Folks Get Away from It All

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Not so long ago, Chris Zwierzynski stayed at our Central Texas guest ranch. Chris writes for Tripbase.com, named “Top Travel Website for Destination Ideas” by Travel and Leisure magazine in November 2008. Chris passed his article on to us. Read on for his thoughts on “Getting Away from it All” in Texas.

A Blissful Place to Unwind

Monday, April 12th, 2010

A lovely couple came to stay at our Texas guest ranch last month. They said they were in dire need of a little R&R, and I believe they found it here.

Porch swings spark creativity

They explored the area, browsed antique stores and genuinely enjoyed Central Texas small towns with big personalities.

When not out and about having fun, they stayed put and had fun. At right, you can see how the porch swing of the Lehman guest house Texas really sparks creativity.

We had a great time chatting when they came to eat at Carol’s Cat Spring restaurant. One of the best parts of our business is the fact that we get to meet so many wonderful people!

Read what they had to say about their stay at Blisswood at their blog at CasaCullen.

Bluebonnets are Back!

Monday, April 5th, 2010

In just about one week, the bluebonnets will be in full bloom at our Houston vacation ranch. If you have never experienced the Texas Hill Country in full bluebonnet bloom you really should. It is like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. The fragrance of millions of bluebonnets infuses the air. The blue ground shimmers as far as the eye can see when the breeze gently caresses those delicate flowers. It’s magical.

BlissWood’s own photographer, Skeeter Hagler, will be available to capture you in the bluebonnet fields surrounding our Central Texas b&b. We are now taking reservations for private photography sessions, whether you are a guest here at BlissWood or not. Call 713-301-3235 for reservations.

Have Skeeter create beautiful portraits of your family among the bluebonnets.

Theater Arts Champions Visit the Ranch

Enjoying Fine Dining outside Houston.

Carol warmly welcomes National Champions in Theater Arts to her Houston area restaurant. They stayed at our Texas guest ranch, and helped Carol reminisce about her 8 years as a professional ballroom dancer.

A Happy Reunion with Corky Ballas

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Corky Ballas and Carol at Houston area fine dining restaurant

In a past life, Carol was a professional ballroom dancer (for 8 years!). She happily gave it up to focus on her Houston guest ranch.

Yet once a dancer, always a dancer. Carol was thrilled when Corky Ballas showed up at her Texas guest ranch. Since Carol knew him, he has partnered with Cloris Leachman in Dancing with the Stars.

It was great to reconnect. Don’t be surprised if you see Carol dancing around the ranch!

Snow in Texas? Sometimes.

Snow in Texas? Yes, and frost, too!

A couple of weeks ago, guests at our Texas Bed and Breakfast woke up to a frosty morning. It was a little early for a White Christmas, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t appreciated. One of the benefits to living in a warm climate is that you can greet the arrival of snow with a sincere smile.

It’s always a treat to be able to use our fireplaces, and this was one of those times. Smoke wafted out of many chimneys that weekend, giving a pleasant, woody fragrance to the air.

Our Houston area lodging was hosting a corporate retreat when the snows started to fall. The group proved they could be flexible, opting out of scheduled paddle boat races and enjoying indoor team building activities instead.

Balmy weather is back, but we are keeping firewood on hand, just in case.

The Perfect Proposal

Monday, December 7th, 2009

There are as many ways to propose a marriage as there are future brides and grooms. Sometimes proposals are spontaneous, born out of the sudden realization that you must spend your life with the person before you. Often, however, at least one person plans a proposal, selecting the location and time with great care. I believe there is a certain amount of superstition around marriage proposals – the belief that if everything goes just right, she’ll say yes and the marriage will be blessed.

Joe and Amy, minutes after she said "yes".

Joe and Amy, minutes after she said "yes".

We were happy that recently Joe selected our Texas Guest Ranch as the place to pop the question to Amy. Amy obviously knew about their weekend together, but Joe kept the proposal a secret until the moment he asked for her hand. Joe made some arrangements to help set the proper mood: wrangler Carol guided the couple on a horseback ride to Enchanted Lake, where a bottle of champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries were waiting for them in the Gazebo.

Our Texas Guest Ranch offers several special packages for folks with marriage on the mind. There is a package for guests of the ranch, and another for couples who want a special location for the proposal, but plan to return home at the end of the day.

We understand how important this moment is, and we strive to create a unique and private experience for everyone.
