Houston Area Golfing Getaways

Monday, February 8th, 2010

The next time you are planning to escape from Houston for a while, throw your golf clubs in the car and head to our Cat Springs bed and breakfast. Golfing is a great addition to any time away from the normal grind. It gets you outside and walking. It takes your mind off your woes. In short, it’s a great way to pass the day with a spouse or a friend.

Head to Stephen F. Austin Golf Club

The Stephen F. Austin Golf Club is a beautiful spot just 30 minutes from our Houston area guest ranch. It is nestled in a bend of the Brazos River, and has several small streams meandering through it. These, along with the thousands of pecan trees that line the course, help keep the course cool in the heat of summer. They also present a fun challenge for golfers.

Or head to the River Ridge Golf Club

Just a little farther down the road is the River Ridge Golf Club, in Sealy. Golf Digest has called it “One of The Best 18 Holes of the New Generation”. Also on the banks of the Brazos River, River Ridge has spectacular views and golf for all levels.

Enjoy comfortable lodging in our Hill Country guest ranch. Sleep late. Golf a while. Then enjoy a drink on your deck and dinner at our Cat Spring restaurant. When you return to the city, you will be a new person.

Relaxing Shopping

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Christmas is around the corner, but there is still time to shop. Of course, now is the best time to avoid crowded malls, which tend to make us feel more scrooge-ish than anything else. Better to seek out interesting shops that are off the beaten path. There you will have room to breathe and let inspiration strike.

Just such a place exists close to our Houston area guest ranch.

Mustang Alley Antiques is located in an old general store between Sealy and Bellville. If you happen to be looking for cowhide this is THE place to go, but it also has other interesting items. Check out the fine collection of antique oak and walnut furniture, or look for something downright silly. This is a shopping experience that will put you in a good mood.

Instead of returning to whence you came right after shopping, why not spend a night or two at our Houston area guest ranch? Take time to treat yourself to an afternoon of horseback riding. Bring your knitting and finish that project while relaxing on the porch of your cabin. Forget about cooking for a change and enjoy a delicious meal at our Cat Spring restaurant – grilled bison and sweet potato fries anyone?

After all, you deserve a holiday, too.

Scrapbooking

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Our Guest Ranch outside Houston is a perfect place to gather with friends and get serious about scrapbooking. This past weekend, we had a great group of gals here for just that purpose.

We have ten cabins/cottages available, scattered throughout the guest ranch, several of which can comfortably house eight people. No need to try to cram all of your scrapbooking materials into one small room – take over the whole house! Heck, book all the cabins and take over the whole ranch. It could be a scrapbooker’s paradise!

When your eyes tire or you need to stretch out a bit, we have miles of trails for you. You can even mix things up with horseback rides if you like, or take the feed tour and visit the animals. Refreshed and invigorated, you will return to your work with renewed creativity.

Such a lovely place to scrapbook

Bring the whole family to our guest ranch.

Our Houston Area Guest Ranch is an ideal setting for family reunions. With many individual cabins, extended families can gather together easily while still enjoying their own private lodging. Hot Air Balloon Rides Houston

Soar over Texas

Soar over Texas

This summer, invite your love on a romantic getaway in Texas. Reserve a private cabin surrounded by live oaks on a spacious ranch just an hour outside of Houston. Wake your sweetie early in the morning, and surprise him or her with a romantic hot air balloon ride. If arrangements are made in advance, Texas Air Adventures will bring the balloon to our guest ranch near Houston. These are private flights for just the two of you; they are a perfect place to propose, if that is on your mind, or simply to say “I love you” to the person who has stood by you year after year.

Soar over the countryside for about an hour, at dawn. Watch the world awaken as you silently glide above. You may bring your camera, of course, but the folks at Texas Air Adventures will also take photos and give you a CD of your flight; that way, if you would rather simply experience the beauty of the ride together, you will still have images to help you remember it. After the ride, share champagne next to the balloon.

Father’s Day is coming up. Why not surprise the father of your children with a ride he will never forget? Or perhaps you know your own father has always dreamed of soaring silently over the Texas Hill Country; make it happen this year.

New Texas Bed and Breakfast Web site

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Well, if you haven’t already noticed, Blisswood Bed & Breakfast has a new look online! We just finished a new design for our web site and hope that the public will love all the new photos and our clear and easy to use navigation.

It was important that we had a site that really delivered the beauty of the ranch. We needed to get more pictures and bigger pictures, to accurately express the experience one has to look forward to when coming to Blisswood, whether for a weekend escape near Houston, or an Outdoor Texas Wedding .

Now we have clear information about all the properties at our Texas Weekend Getaway and photos of the interior of the property. There is an RSS feed at the bottom of every page with the most recent posts from this blog so it is easy to find and accessible to visitors.

The site has also gone through Search Engine Optimization to help with the placement of the site in search engines like Google and Yahoo.

The new property at the nearby Oasis is also now listed on the site. The Oasis features an Orchid Nursery House with a swimming pool, accessible to all Oasis guests. it is just down the street from Lehmann Legacy Ranch.

There are now several PDFs on the site for visitors to download. One is the menu for the Carol’s at Cat Spring restaurant. While planning your Texas Romantic Getaway, you can look at the menu for the week you are coming and plan to have dinner delivered to your house on the ranch.

We hope you love the site as much as we do!

Welcome to the Oasis

Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Just when you thought we couldn’t possibly offer anything more amazing…

Welcome to the Oasis! This little corner of tropical paradise is the newest property addition to Blisswood. A lush, and elegant environment full of flowing water and cascading landscapes is in store for you at the Oasis.

The first house we are opening is Harriett’s House. Harriett is a two-story home with the bedroom and The Orchard House at the Oasis at Blisswoodsitting room upstairs. Downstairs has full kitchen and living area, small dining area, dishwasher, refrigerator, TV, and WILL have internet access. The bathroom has shower/tub combo. We serve the usual Blisswood continental breakfast at the Oasis.  This special place is best for couples as it is a quiet, romantic place.

The centerpiece of the Oasis is the Conservatory. A Victorian wrought-iron greenhouse, the Conservatory will lead you to believe you have just left Texas for the South Pacific. A personal pool is in the center of the greenhouse, giving the guest the opportunity for bathing during any weather or hour of the day, in the greenery and tropical environment created in the Orchard house.

We can’t wait to indulge you with this lush paradise amongst the rolling Texas Hills! Have your cake and eat it too! It is the best of both worlds!

Look for a page on our website soon about the Oasis…

Bass Big in Texas

Bass Big in Texas

Originally uploaded by Cat Spring, Texas

My friend Richard began his “career” as Rancher Richard, helping around BlissWood Bed-Breakfast & Spa at Lehmann Legacy Ranch in Cat Spring Texas. He soon earned the title of BlissWood Bassman, as he found out he had first a passion for fishing and the challenge of always trying for a bigger catch; secondly, he so enjoys being the fishing guide for guests at BlissWood. Here he is showing off his catch at Carol’s at Cat Spring Restaurant. Richard is still trying for the bigger one, as he does not hold the title for the biggest fish. That title right now belongs to a BlissWood guest, bass measuring 24 inches. Richard also holds the pretigious title of BlissWood Bluebird Boxman.
