Horse Whispering at our Texas guest ranch

Once again, we at Blisswood are thrilled to host licensed horse whisperer Janice Terra on May 31, 2009. “Wise Women and Medicine Ponies” will be from 10am until 4pm. This is a great opportunity for horseback riding Houston. The Lady Horse Whisperer will begin with a lecture and will follow with a ground session. After a tasty lunch at Carol’s at Cat Spring, participants will do mounted work, and at the end of the day there will be time for discussion and questions.

Horse whispering is important in a broader context than riding. Janice Terra has said, “When I work with people I say that the horses help people return themselves to themselves.” She goes on to explain that in order for a child who weighs 50 pounds to control a horse weighing 1200 pounds, “neither force nor ‘doormat-itis’ will work…. The horse forces one to walk that thin line of controlling without being controlling. Pulitzer Prizewinning Photojournalist Skeeter Hagler is coming to Blisswood this weekend, April 17 – 19, for a photojournalism workshop. The workshop kicks off Friday night with a delicious dinner at Carol’s at Cat Spring Restaurant, where Skeeter will offer opening remarks. Participants will learn what it is like to work as a real photojournalist and carry out an assignment from start to finish: through the shooting, editing, layout, criticism, and printing stages. Skeeter and his knowledgeable staff will work closely with workshop participants, guiding them on how to get the perfect shot, select a few photographs from the hundreds taken, and create a moving visual narrative. By the end of the workshop, students will have developed their eye and honed their skills as a photographer. They will also have a real feel for what it is like to work in the field.

Since the workshop is being held at Blisswood at Lehman Legacy Ranch, why not stay at premier Texas bed and breakfast Blisswood during the workshop? I wanted to take some time to share photos and stories from recent guests that really enjoyed Blisswood, our big-hearted Texas bed and breakfast.

This happy couple came to the Ranch for Thanksgiving and had a wonderful time celebrating with us! They also made sure to stop by my restaurant, Carol’s at Cat Spring, for their Texas Weekend Getaway. We love, love, love making folks happy out here at Blisswood! That is why I opened the B&B and why I continue to try and make the Ranch the best it can be!

This is another family that came to stay at the ranch for Thanksgiving. They participated in the Thanksgiving turkey shoot, where we gave away a nice bird for the holiday. What really tickled me was that the girls out-shot the guys! Way to go ladies!

She came to the ranch for a weekend of rest and relaxation, and that is what we provided her. We are a pet bed and breakfast, and your dog or cat or even horse can be accommodated here at Blisswood. “Just returned from a long weekend at Blisswood and it certainly lived up to the name. The ranch is tucked away under hundred-year-old live oak trees and was truly the epitome of rest and relaxation for me. If you are looking for some of life’s simple pleasures and a quiet time to decompress, this is definitely the place. I woke early in the morning to run several miles and never saw a soul, paddled and fished in the enchanted pond, and rocked peacefully in the porch swing at the house. Dinner at Carol’s at Cat Spring was fantastic, it is a wonderful little restaurant with great food and service. Staying at the ranch is almost like having your very own little cottage in the country if you have never had the experience. The best part of the trip was being able to bring my 13 year old golden retriever! I was glad that Blisswood is a pet friendly ranch. He had such a wonderful time that I couldn’t get him out of the car when we got home, and when I finally went out in the yard to bring him in, he was hiding from me! When the dog wishes it wasn’t over, now THAT is a really good weekend.”
