“Saddle Up!” and Bring Your Horse to Cat Spring, Texas

Tuesday, March 17th, 2015

Horse lovers, it’s time to saddle up and go on a different adventure! You and your horse are tired of the same old scenery, so why not beat the boredom of your familiar surroundings and enjoy a vacation fit for human and horse alike?

If an equestrian vacation package sounds like sweet music to your ears (and with a whinny of approval from your hooved companion), then the folks at BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch have just the thing for equestrians of all ages and skill levels. A horseback riding vacation in the beautiful Texas Hill country on a 500-acre ranch, located an hour West of Houston.

Horse Riding Classes Texas

BYOH (Bring Your Own Horse)! If you don’t have your own horse to bring along, BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch has all the horses you need for group rides and lessons. Our Texas ranch also features boarding accommodations for guests, as well as an all-inclusive horseback riding vacation package.

Our equestrian heritage traces back to the 1830’s, when settlers made the first resemblance of a ranch. By the early 1900’s, it has been an operating ranch, even upon being sold to the owner of an energy company, who developed the property as a Brangus ranch in the 1970’s.

What is BYOH?

You and your favorite riding buddy can enjoy miles of trails at our working ranch, with a complete package that includes two-nights of boarding for one horse, the use of riding trails each day, a daily picnic lunch, access to a fire pit for evening cookouts, one delicious barbecue dinner with a ribeye steak dinner, and setup for horseshoes. Here is a breakdown:

Boarding for one horse 2 nights*

  • Use of Riding Trails every day
  • Firepit each night
  • BBQ Dinner one evening
  • Ribeye steak dinner one evening
  • Picnic lunch each day
  • Horseshoes set up

This two-night package is $199 per person, plus the cost of accommodations (two-night minimum requirement). Booking a package is as easy as calling 1-713-301-3235.

Have Horse, Will Travel

Horse boarding for guests bringing their favorite equine companion along for the ride costs $35 per night, per horse. That includes a private paddock and loafing shed. Owners must provide their own feed, produce required veterinary documents, and sign a boarding agreement. Travel to Texas for a real riding vacation, whether you have a horse or ride one of ours!

Cat Spring, TX Ranch You don’t have to have a horse or even be an equestrian enthusiast to enjoy a picnic lunch at BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch. A guide will take you to your own picnic site alongside BlissWood’s private lake. Enjoy the sights and sounds of nature while relaxing and enjoying a delicious meal. A golf cart will be available to return you to your lodging quarters. The cost is $189 per couple plus cost of accommodations.

Trail Rides and Lessons

There’s plenty of room to roam and take in the surroundings of Mother Nature at BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch, which features beautiful meadows, babbling creeks, serene ponds and lush forests. We offer guided trail rides and riding lessons for adults and children alike.  A one-hour guided ride is $69 per guest, but you don’t have to be a guest to partake.  The fee for non-guests is $99 per person.  Children must be age 13 or older and all of those under the age of 18 will be allowed to ride only at the discretion of the trail guide. Consider a Different Kind Trip this Spring :: Spring Break in Texas

Wednesday, March 11th, 2015

Whenever the words “Spring Break,” are mentioned, most people think of destinations like Las Vegas, or Florida cities like Daytona Beach, Sanibel Island or Miami Beach. Foreign locations like Cancun, the Virgin Islands or the Bahamas also seem appealing for those who want a reprieve from the cold weather or hard-hitting snow storms we’ve had this season.

Those are great, but…

There is a new trend in spring break vacationing. Locations like Fort Lauderdale have given way to modern hot spots such as South Padre Island, Texas, California and other lesser-known destinations. Some people don’t want to fight the crowds at the airport or to go through the hassles of traveling to these temperate climates. In Texas, BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch makes for a wicked fun vacation without breaking the bank, and without worrying about wearing extra layers of sunscreen.

Family vacations in Texas

Sure, we get our fair share of hot weather. Just west of Houston BlissWood Bed and Breakfast offers plenty of fun activities for those who enjoy a less populated spring break destination. Tranquility, peace and lots of outdoor activities make this a really fun place to visit.

Sure, South Padre is ranked by many magazines and online travel blogs as the current No. 1 Spring Break destination, but if you’re looking for more than beer, booze, boys, babes and beaches, look about an hour west of Houston to a little town called Cat Spring. Our big vacation ranch offers a lot more bang for your college student buck. Or if you have a family, the last thing you want to do is bring the little ones to a place where the college kids are going.

Your kids will remember this spring break forever. Make it a tradition!

BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch sounds quaint and small, but this working ranch boasts 500 acres of activities, history, excitement, fun, luxury, and plenty of fuel for lasting memories.

Start with a natural, outdoor-free range zoo where visitors can see (and get up close and even pet in some cases), diverse animals including miniature donkeys, goats, fallow deer, Black Buck antelopes, peacocks, cattle, bison, horses, and other animals and birds too numerous to list. Let’s just say that if your kids love animals, they will love our ranch. This is also an ideal region to hike, bike, nature walk, or just take in the sights faster by renting a golf cart.

Looking for more ‘active’ activities? How about mountain and trail cycling, hiking, archery, bass fishing, trap shooting, horseback riding, guided tours, golfing, and even hot air balloon rides.Dude Ranch near Houston

When it comes to lodging, BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch is on par with the finest four-and five-star hotels in the country, offering nine various types of accommodations. From the small and simple one-bedroom, enchanted cabin that sleeps a party of three, to several Oasis bungalows or suites sleeping two, our smaller accommodations are “just right.” If your family or group of friends needs a bigger space, the spacious four-bedroom Lehman house holds as many as eight. Plus, we have a three-bedroom ranch studio that can sleep as many as eight, or the two-suite, dog trot house which can comfortably sleep ten. There are many other options in between; including the two-bedroom Texas farmhouse, the two-bedroom log cabin, the Bluebonnet Bungalow, and the newly-added garden cottage. Lodging ranges in price from $149 to $419.

Food is another added plus, as Carol’s Restaurant stresses casual dress, while providing “fashionably classy” food including steak, pasta, seafood and chicken. Carol’s offers several ‘signature dishes’ that you won’t find anywhere else, which gives your Spring Break an extra special touch. It’s not surprising that Carol’s — despite being in the “middle of nowhere” has gained national notoriety, popularity, and raves from many food critics, magazines and blog writers.

BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch is very close to two state parks — Stephen F. Austin and Washington-on-the-Brazos — and several historical and cultural attractions as well as many antique shops. So you can make your Spring Break very educational for the kids, as well!

Before booking a traditional Spring Break trip with four-to-six-people crammed in a hotel room near a noisy, jam-packed beach, take a look at BlissWood. Just as the name suggests, our location is decidedly different, and a great value for the endearing memories it will bring. You can even bring your Furry Family, since BlissWood is Pet Friendly!  Book a stay with us by calling 713-301-3235 to check with us on dates and availability.
