Central Texas Antique Stores

Monday, February 21st, 2011

Shopping for antiques, like going to garage sales, isn’t everybody’s idea of a good time. But for those of us who enjoy the doggedness of the hunt and the thrill of the find, there is little better. If that sounds like you, consider spending a few days at our Central Texas Bed and Breakfast while antiquing in nearby towns.

Mustang Alley - a local treasure.

About ten miles northeast of Cat Spring, Bellville TX is home to Nothing Ordinary Antiques, Cottonwood Cottage, and Antiques Etc Emporium, all within a few blocks of each other. Nothing Ordinary is located in an early 1900′s auto dealership, and upon entering it is clear that the walls house something special. The space is large – nearly 8,000 square feet – so perseverance and energy are required. This is a good place to find Victorian beadwork, Majolica from England, Europe and Japan, and lovely lace and linens.

About ten miles southeast of Cat Spring, Sealy TX is home to Bitter Weeds Antiques, Stokes Antiques, Four w Co, and Hradil Auction Co. & Antiques. Hradil’s puts on auctions and estate sales every other Sunday – a great place to find all sorts of unexpected and unusual items.

Cat Spring’s local treasure is Mustang Alley, located in an old general store close to Carol’s fine dining restaurant. Here you’ll find everything from antiques to jewelry, along with an impressive selection of Brazilian cowhides.

Antique hunters should enjoy lodging at our Central Texas guest cabins, since they are furnished with antiques. Poke around nearby antique stores by day, and sleep on a comfortable antique bed at night.

Central Texas Guest Ranch is a Gem

Monday, December 6th, 2010

Guests of our Central Texas Vacation ranch sometimes have the opportunity to watch cowboys and cowgirls at work. Below you can see our herd of purebred Angus being rounded up. This time we used a jeep and a golf cart; other times we use horses.

Our Houston area cabins are situated on a 600-acre ranch, meaning there is plenty of room to roam. Guests may watch us at work, participate in a morning feed tour, or simply relax on the porch in the shade.

The Happy Goddess with Sassy.

Below is one such review, posted on BedandBreakfast.com. At right is a picture of the guest with our dog Sassy.

“One word: Wow! We chose the Enchanted Cabin for our stay as I wanted something secluded and away from everyone else. This is EXACTLY what we got. In fact, when we drove down the road (with darling little handmade signs) we got to the end and my husband said, “Where is it?” The cabin was so nestled we barely saw it. (more…)

Riding Lesson for Children

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

Treat your child to a special holiday this spring or summer. Stay at our Central Texas vacation ranch and let us give your child horseback riding lessons.

Carol and her staff have years of experience teaching horseback riding and training horses. While it is fun to teach students of all ages, it is perhaps most rewarding to teach children how to ride.

Children are eager students. They love the horses immediately, and are gentle with them. At the same time, they are thrilled by the sense of power they feel when the horse does what they ask it to do. Horseback riding is incredibly empowering for children; it is a tremendous responsibility to have reins in hand. They’ll learn many lessons that will prove relevant in all aspects of their lives.

The horses at our Central Texas vacation ranch are gentle, and used to being ridden by all levels of rider. This is the perfect place to introduce your child to horseback riding.

Antiquing Outside Houston

Monday, March 15th, 2010

Spring is a great time for antique hunting near our Central Texas bed and breakfast. Cat Spring wrapped up a show on March 14 (meaning that there are great deals to be had here now). Round Top has several antique events from March 26 through April 3, 2010.

If you are patient and enjoy the quest, you can find treasures in the antique shops of Central Texas. Browse Mustang Alley in Cat Spring; try to find something ordinary in Bellville’s Nothing Ordinary Antiques, and find out what is being auctioned at Hradil Auction Co. in Sealy.

Antique hunting can be a great addition to any getaway at our Houston area guest ranch.  Newlyweds can look for unique furnishings for their new home, while couples celebrating their anniversary may find each other the perfect gifts. Friends will have fun exploring the shops at the end of country lanes. No matter who you are with or what you are looking for, you are sure to have fun.
