Loyal Guests Rewarded at Texas B&B

Monday, February 28th, 2011

For every four nights you stay at our Central Texas Bed and Breakfast during a one-year period, you’ll receive one weekday night free. Extend one of your trips to our Houston Texas Guest Ranch, or come back another time – the offer is good for six months.

This is a small way to thank our loyal guests who stay with us again and again. So come with your sweetie, your family, or your friends. Ride horses, read a book, or get married. It doesn’t matter what you do, so long as you have a wonderful time.

Relaxing at BlissWood

Allison & Sassy Enjoying the Sunshine

This is Real Puppy Love!  A rare family that epitomizes real family values just ended their weekend at our Texas Guest Ranch.   There is real family love that one can feel when around them–both children wonderfully behaved, parents very caring and loving.  Alexis and Allison, you will be remembered! Allison obviously has this special connection with animals, and Sassy our ranch ambassador, quickly knew this and took advantage of it.   Allison is now famous here at BlissWood, and Sassy awaits her next visit.  Alexis and Allison took advantage of our children’s horseback riding and had a great time with our wonderful weather this weekend.  Upon their return home this evening. Mother Lori wrote:  “We are proud of the girls!  We had a great time this weekend; it was the first time for any of us to visit a ranch (except for school field trips).  We really loved riding our bikes and seeing all the animals up close.  Thank you so much for sending the photos as Allison was in tears that she didn’t see Sassy this morning.  We printed the pictures already.  Allison is taking them to school tomorrow – 1st grade.  It’s a great thing that you have done with Blisswood.”   This is what BlissWood is all about–getting unplugged, relaxing in nature, surrounded by our ranch animals.

Guest Ranch Welcomes Managers

Monday, February 7th, 2011

Debby and Ralph are the managers of our Houston Texas guest ranch. Debby has a great deal of experience in hospitality, while Ralph has had a varied career that includes construction and maintenance. In short, they are perfect for Blisswood. Ralph makes sure everything on the ranch is ship-shape, while Debby dedicates herself to ensuring that guests of our Bed and Breakfast Cat Spring Texas have all they need.

Both of these are big jobs. Our ranch is spread over 650-acres, and our B&B consists of ten turn-of-the-century homes. In addition, we offer many activities on the ranch for our guests, be it horseback riding, archery, fishing, or romantic picnics at the lake gazebo. Guests may choose to do nothing more than relax on the porch of their vacation cabin, or they may fill their time here with a host of activities. Debby and Ralph will help all happen smoothly.

BlissWood Horseback Ride

BlissWood Horseback Ride

It’s fun and relaxing at BlissWood, whether you are working or playing.  Our BlissWood Crew gets to experience what guests experience at our Texas Bed and Breakfast, and recently our great crew took a long horseback ride and found out why guests enjoy their rides and come back for more.    Memories are made and savored, and especially for one of our crew, Jan from Canada.  She said she will never forget this wonderful experience on horseback, a great Texas memory to take with her on her continuing trek.

Philosophooing

Roger says:  “Life is what you make of it.  Grab what you can while you can.  Heck, the chickens come around when I’m trying to eat my banana; if I drop a bite, they are there to peck it up quickly.  One must always be vigilent.  Grab it first with no hesitation.”  Life on a Texas Guest Ranch.

Frosty Morning Horseback Ride

Not a Usual Sight--Frost!

Texas weather is so varied that one day we are wearing shorts, the next day warm jackets.  They say if you are not satisfied with the Texas weather, wait an hour and it will change.  Thus it was at our Texas Guest Ranch this weekend, when Frosty visited us.  It quickly disappeared, but not quick enough, since I had horseback rides with guests and had to really bundle up.   The sun was our friend and it turned out to be quite an enjoyable ride and guests had a memorable experience.

Grandcation at Houston Texas Guest Ranch

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Our Texas Guest Ranch outside Houston is an ideal place for extended families to meet, and we’ve created a Grandcation Special with just that in mind.

The bond between grandparents and grandchildren is special and unique. Grandchildren can help grandparents step out of their routines and try new experiences. Grandparents can help children learn to be more patient and understanding. Bringing this relationship to a new place – one ensconced in nature and filled with fresh air, animals, and vast open spaces – adds to it.

Grandson loves horseback riding.

The Crotty Family Spends Labor Day at Texas Guest Ranch

Monday, October 19th, 2009

One of the things we like best about running a guest ranch near Houston is that we help create memorable experiences for the folks who stay here. Take the Crotty family, who have been coming to our bed and breakfast ranch for the past four years. Each trip they try something new: a different house, a new experience. This last trip, over Labor Day Weekend, they took the feeding tour – something their seven year old son found delightful. Read their own words:

“We have been going to Blisswood for the past four years, and will continue for years to come. Our son was 3 when we first went there and he still calls it ‘our ranch’. We usually take one or more of our dogs, who all love the new smells and fresh country air. It is a place for us to slow down and reconnect as a family. Being only a little over an hour outside of Houston, it is a world away from the bustle and rush of city living. The new staff are wonderful, too. And if you haven’t eaten at Carol’s restaurant, you are missing a great meal. ”

Pictured below is their son feeding Me-Me the fallow deer and Willie the Camel.

Celebrate Texas Wineries

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Texas has a thriving wine industry that has been growing steadily and gaining acclaim over the years. Once considered home to sweeter wines, Texas is now recognized as having ideal conditions for a wide variety of grapes; it therefore produces a wide variety of fine wines. We are planning to celebrate Texas wine on September 30 at our fine dining restaurant adjacent to our Texas Guest Ranch.

Fall Creek Vineyards was established in 1975 by Texas businessman/rancher, Ed Auler and his wife, Susan. The vineyards are located eighty miles northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country where the sandy loam soil, warm days and cool breezes off Lake Buchanan provide an excellent microclimate for growing premium wine grapes.

The inspiration for the winery came in 1973 when the Aulers, on a trip to France, noted remarkable similarities in the soil, terrain and microclimate of parts of the French wine country and their own ranch. “I became convinced that certain parts of the Texas Hill Country would be ideally suited to grape growing,” says Ed.

He was right. Anyone who enjoys wine wouldn’t think of visiting parts of Texas without stopping by at least one winery, and there are many “wine trails” that will lead happy tasters to one winery after another.

At the end of September, spend a night or two at our Central Texas lodging and join us for our celebration of Texas wineries in general, and Fall Creek Vineyards in particular. For $79 per person you will enjoy six courses superbly paired with Fall Creek wines. Plan to stay the night at our guest ranch near Houston, so that you can sit back and allow yourself to relax and enjoy each sip. Then stroll back to your private cottage under the huge Texas sky. This could just be the makings of an ideal romantic getaway.
