Unforgettable Guests at BlissWood

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Everyone who finds their way to our Texas Bed & Breakfast is enjoyable. Some folks stand out more than others. We recently had a wonderful couple here, Pris and Jesse, who found Blisswood on line. Pris turned out to have a great eye for photography; she sent me some photos, which I share below. Pris & Jesse also enjoyed horseback riding around the ranch and our Official BlissWood Photographer, Skeeter Hagler, captured the moments for them.  More relaxation came with a wonderful couples massage, right in their own lodging.

Here is what Pris had to say about their stay:  “My husband and I just returned from a romantic Valentine’s weekend at Blisswood Bed and Breakfast, Cat Spring, Texas. Blisswood had so much to offer to help us relax and reconnect. I loved not having a TV and no other distractions because we were fully able to enjoy each other’s company. I highly recommend purchasing the picnic lunch at the Enchanted Lake! It was a most peaceful, relaxing, and delicious lunch, and it included a bottle of wine we thoroughly enjoyed. We brought our bikes with us and enjoyed riding all around the ranch, where I got some great photos! We also purchased a couples massage where they came to our cabin, it was amazing! Carol prides herself in giving her guests a great experience and her manager Debbie is so accommodating. Carol also has several exotic animals that you can help feed which was really cool! I even got to pet her kangaroo! We are planning to go back with our kids in the spring when the bluebonnets are in bloom. If you want to take a step back in time where you can enjoy nature, I highly recommend Blisswood Texas guest ranch. Oh, for some great food don’t forget to head to Carol’s at Cat Spring; you won’t be disappointed!”

Thanks Pris and Jesse! We look forward to meeting your kids.

Warm Yourself at our Texas Guest Ranch

Monday, January 31st, 2011

We’ve had some funny weather in Central Texas this winter. Today’s high is in the 70s, and on Friday there may be snow. Crazy. Many Texas just don’t know what to do with temperatures below 50 degrees, but we have a few ideas for guests of our Central Texas Vacation Ranch.

Cold weather can be invigorating if you embrace it. Explore our 650-acre ranch by horseback, riding across open fields and protected oak woodlands. The cool air on your face will make you feel so alive – it’s thrilling, really. After the ride, warm yourself back at your cabin. Several of our Houston Guest Ranch cabins have fireplaces and are well stocked with oak logs from fallen trees around the property. Oak burns hot and long – it will keep your cabin toasty warm and inviting.

The cozy Aloha Cottage.

There is something inherently romantic about snuggling in front of a fire. Experience it for yourself here at our Texas Vacation Cabins, at Blisswood.

Fall Weddings at Texas Guest Ranch

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Fall is a lovely time for weddings at our guest ranch Houston Texas. The heat of summer has abated, but it is still warm enough for strapless gowns. Live Oaks bring forth their muted, Texas-style fall colors before dropping their leaves. Evenings are fairly cool – perfect weather for snuggling.

A traditional Scottish Wedding at our Texas Guest Ranch.

In our experience, October 10 is a popular date to marry; maybe it’s because couples figure they’ll be able to remember an anniversary dated 10/10/– even when their memories are no longer functioning at 100%. Whatever the reason, there is usually at least one wedding on the tenth of October at our Houston Texas Guest Ranch, and this year is no different. That said, we could accommodate another small wedding. Do any couples out there feel spontaneous?

We are located just 50 miles outside of Houston. City dwellers seeking an expansive, outdoor venue for their wedding will find our Cat Spring ranch easy to reach. Furthermore, with on-site lodging for 43 people (in 8 cabins), we can easily accommodate the wedding party and quite a few family members and close friends. Host your rehearsal dinner at nearby Carol’s Restaurant, which is a comfortable fine dining experience.

If you are seriously considering marriage but haven’t yet set a date, give us a call at 713-301-3235. We are able to accommodate small, intimate weddings with fairly short notice. Larger weddings require more advance notice.

Scrapbooking

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Our Guest Ranch outside Houston is a perfect place to gather with friends and get serious about scrapbooking. This past weekend, we had a great group of gals here for just that purpose.

We have ten cabins/cottages available, scattered throughout the guest ranch, several of which can comfortably house eight people. No need to try to cram all of your scrapbooking materials into one small room – take over the whole house! Heck, book all the cabins and take over the whole ranch. It could be a scrapbooker’s paradise!

When your eyes tire or you need to stretch out a bit, we have miles of trails for you. You can even mix things up with horseback rides if you like, or take the feed tour and visit the animals. Refreshed and invigorated, you will return to your work with renewed creativity.

Fine Dining Worth The Drive

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009
Stop in for an excellent meal

Stop in for an excellent meal

It takes less than an hour to drive here from Houston, and boy, is it worth it. Once here, you will find yourself in another world – peaceful and restorative. Yet you don’t need to suffer the fate of some travelers to remote parts of this great land. Here, at our Central Texas bed and breakfast, you will find top-notch accommodations and fine dining.

John Mariani, writing for Esquire, visited our Houston area guest ranch and was delighted by what he found here. To quote him, “if you want a true Last Picture Show sense of a Texas where you can have eggs and bacon in a gazebo as the mist rises off the lake,” you’ll find it here. While you enjoy a romantic getaway in your own cabin, you may stroll down the road to our comfortable restaurant.

Wine lovers should not miss the upcoming special Wine Dinner, on September 30, 2009, at 7 pm. We’ll be celebrating the Texas Department of Agriculture Restaurant Roundup, showcasing the wines of Fall Creek Vineyards. Susan and Ed Auler, who own Fall Creek Vineyards, will be the guests of honor, and the meal will be designed to highlight their wines. Come just for the meal if you live in the area, or make a holiday of it and stay for a night or two in one of our romantic cabins. Reservations recommended.
