Saddle Up at Our Bed and Breakfast in Texas Hill Country

Friday, August 17th, 2012

When is the last time you went horseback riding? Or the last time you even SAW a horse (other than your city’s mounted police patrol)?

Horses are an integral part of the landscape and environment at BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Inn, on our 650-acre working ranch near Houston.  They’re part of our family, really. And guided horseback rides are one of the most popular activities we offer.

This couple, visiting from Houston, stayed in the Enchanted Cabin and took advantage of our horseback/picnic package. Their guide took them from the barn to Enchanted Lake on horseback, where a picnic basket was waiting for them in a gazebo on an island at Enchanted Lake. After lunch, a golf cart took them back to the barn.

The couple commissioned BlissWood’s Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer in residence, Skeeter Hagler, to come along and capture some special moments.

They described their stay with us – and their activities – as peaceful and relaxing, a much-needed break from their hectic lives. They departed with lasting memories, and a promise to come back and see us.

What can I say, going to a family run ranch makes all the difference from the personal touch to the quality of care. I highly recommend the ranch to anyone who would like to experience the great outdoors ‘Texas style’! :)

Bluebonnets in bloom at Blisswood

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

A baby among the bluebonnets. Have Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Skeeter Hagler create portraits of your family among the blooming flowers at BlissWood Bed and Breakfast, a retreat and working ranch in Cat Spring, Texas.

The bluebonnet, as you may know, is the state flower of Texas, but we have so many of them now, it may as well be the official flower of BlissWood, our  vacation ranch just an hour west of Houston.

“Just fields and fields of them,” B&B owner Carol Davis says. “It looks like seas of blue here.”

About all she can do is marvel and suggest you get on over to the ranch and get your picture taken among the blossoms by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Skeeter Hagler, or maybe go horseback riding to soak in the glorious view while the flowers are peaking. Imagine how sweet that would be.

It’s a bumper year, Davis says, and the bluebonnets will be in bloom for about five weeks. Lupinus texensis, the scientific name for the bluebonnets that blanket Central Texas, prompted the late state governor, W. Lee “Pappy” O’Daniel to sing that “you may be on the plains or the mountains or down where the sea breezes blow, but bluebonnets are one of the prime factors that make the state the most beautiful land that we know.”

Read more about bluebonnets here at Blisswood. And by all means, visit us and see for yourself.

Workaway International Participants Visit BlissWood B&B

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

At BlissWood B&B, we love to open our doors to people from around the world. This summer we were lucky enough to host two young women from France through the Workaway International program.

Workaway International is a US-based recruiting company that provides young people with the opportunity to live and work in the US for six months at a world class resort.

Participants in the program gain international work experience while improving their work skills and marketability. Plus, they get a lot of opportunities to have fun and make new friends.

As their summer came to a close, we wanted to send the girls off with a distinctly Texan experience. So we saddled up the horses and treated them to a memorable horseback ride through Lehmann Legacy Ranch.

Here are the pictures:

The girls had a great time, as you can see in these shots, and we were sad to see them go. We’re looking forward to participating in more international opportunities like this in the near future.

Thank you to the girls for all their hard work this summer!

A Mother’s Day Mother / Daughter Getaway

Monday, March 21st, 2011

What would your mom like for Mother’s Day? If she’s like my mom, she would most like to spend a little time with her daughter. For all you daughters who live far from your mothers, this blog is for you.

Consider treating your mother to a Mother / Daughter Getaway at our Texas Guest Ranch for Mother’s Day this year.

Mothers and Daughters enjoy time together at our Texas Vacation Ranch.

Our Texas Vacation Ranch Mother / Daughter Getaway provides a wonderful opportunity for the two of you to spend time together. Enjoy a horseback ride and a picnic in the Gazebo at Enchanted Lake. Unwind with massages. Linger over a gourmet dinner at nearby Carol’s at Cat Spring Houston Area Restaurant. You can even take a thrilling, scenic balloon ride together over Central Texas. Just think what broad swaths of fields covered in wildflowers will look like from the air.

The best part of the gift will simply be spending time with you. How often do you get to appreciate each other as adults and individuals? How often do you get to spend time together, just the two of you?

Since schedules are hard to align and you may have your own children who want to see you on Mother’s Day, you need not schedule your Mother / Daughter Getaway for the weekend of May 8, 2011. Any time will do, before or after Mother’s Day. It’s the time together that’s important.

Unforgettable Guests at BlissWood

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Everyone who finds their way to our Texas Bed & Breakfast is enjoyable. Some folks stand out more than others. We recently had a wonderful couple here, Pris and Jesse, who found Blisswood on line. Pris turned out to have a great eye for photography; she sent me some photos, which I share below. Pris & Jesse also enjoyed horseback riding around the ranch and our Official BlissWood Photographer, Skeeter Hagler, captured the moments for them.  More relaxation came with a wonderful couples massage, right in their own lodging.

Here is what Pris had to say about their stay:  “My husband and I just returned from a romantic Valentine’s weekend at Blisswood Bed and Breakfast, Cat Spring, Texas. Blisswood had so much to offer to help us relax and reconnect. I loved not having a TV and no other distractions because we were fully able to enjoy each other’s company. I highly recommend purchasing the picnic lunch at the Enchanted Lake! It was a most peaceful, relaxing, and delicious lunch, and it included a bottle of wine we thoroughly enjoyed. We brought our bikes with us and enjoyed riding all around the ranch, where I got some great photos! We also purchased a couples massage where they came to our cabin, it was amazing! Carol prides herself in giving her guests a great experience and her manager Debbie is so accommodating. Carol also has several exotic animals that you can help feed which was really cool! I even got to pet her kangaroo! We are planning to go back with our kids in the spring when the bluebonnets are in bloom. If you want to take a step back in time where you can enjoy nature, I highly recommend Blisswood Texas guest ranch. Oh, for some great food don’t forget to head to Carol’s at Cat Spring; you won’t be disappointed!”

Thanks Pris and Jesse! We look forward to meeting your kids.
