Texas Bachelorette Party at Blisswood Bed and Breakfast Ranch

This Houston bachelorette party visited our ranch for an action-packed day trip.  They arrived in style with a limo ride around BlissWood.  The ladies had a blast as they took advantage of the many activities available at the ranch.  They had a full day that included everything from scrapbooking to trapshooting.

Texas Dude Ranch Activities

And what girls’ getaway is complete without a little archery practice? It was really a bachelorette party you have to see to believe.  Fortunately, they took time to capture some memories  - they made sure to book a photo shoot with our resident Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, Skeeter Hagler.

That’s not all BlissWood Bed and Breakfast has to offer.  Depending on your interests, you can choose from a wide variety of other activities that will make your bachelorette party the adventure of a lifetime.  We also offer cycling, horseback riding, and catch and release bass fishing on the ranch.

Of course your trip to BlissWood can include as much or as little as you please. If you just want to relax and take in the scenery with your bridal party, you can stroll around the Enchanted Lake or enjoy a picnic on the grounds.  And if your idea of a good time is just some good old-fashioned pampering, you can book a massage with our licensed massage therapist.  It’s a great way to thank your bridal party for all their help.

So get started planning your customized day trip and call us today at 713-301-3225.

At BlissWood, good things come to those who bait

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

Most visitors come to BlissWood, our vacation ranch and bed and breakfast inn in Cat Spring, Texas, for a weekend (or more!) of trail riding. We are, after all, a 650-acre working ranch.

But BlissWood, our property an hour west of Houston in Texas Hill Country, also boasts several pristine lakes stocked with bass. We encourage guests to take the bait and go fishing. It’s a great way for city slickers of all ages to forget the hustle and bustle and connect with nature.

While some people fish for sport — or for supper — others fish as a way to simply relax and unwind. Fishing at BlissWood promotes peace and quiet and serenity of the mind and is calming to the nerves. Leave your cell phone behind or put it on “silence.”

Both experienced and novice anglers are invited to take advantage of BlissWood’s catch-and-release bass fishing option. If you bring your own gear, the cost is $29 per person. If you would like to use our gear, the cost is $49 per person.

Our catch and release policy is of benefit to both the fish and our guests. The fish are released back to their own environment, giving other visitors to BlissWood a chance to catch the same fish again.

So go ahead. Post a note on your guest house or cabin door that reads: Gone Fishin.’ Catch You Later.

Bass fishing is one of many relaxing activities here at BlissWood. To learn more, give us a call at 713-301-3235.

Bluebonnets in bloom at Blisswood

Thursday, March 29th, 2012

A baby among the bluebonnets. Have Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Skeeter Hagler create portraits of your family among the blooming flowers at BlissWood Bed and Breakfast, a retreat and working ranch in Cat Spring, Texas.

The bluebonnet, as you may know, is the state flower of Texas, but we have so many of them now, it may as well be the official flower of BlissWood, our  vacation ranch just an hour west of Houston.

“Just fields and fields of them,” B&B owner Carol Davis says. “It looks like seas of blue here.”

About all she can do is marvel and suggest you get on over to the ranch and get your picture taken among the blossoms by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Skeeter Hagler, or maybe go horseback riding to soak in the glorious view while the flowers are peaking. Imagine how sweet that would be.

It’s a bumper year, Davis says, and the bluebonnets will be in bloom for about five weeks. Lupinus texensis, the scientific name for the bluebonnets that blanket Central Texas, prompted the late state governor, W. Lee “Pappy” O’Daniel to sing that “you may be on the plains or the mountains or down where the sea breezes blow, but bluebonnets are one of the prime factors that make the state the most beautiful land that we know.”

Read more about bluebonnets here at Blisswood. And by all means, visit us and see for yourself.

Spring Into Texas Wedding Season

Monday, January 10th, 2011

There is never a bad season for weddings in Texas, but we do tend to host more weddings at our Houston area vacation ranch spring through fall. Though the year is still young, now is the time to start planning for a spring wedding here at the ranch.

Our show barn is a lovely venue for a wedding reception.

Whether you want an intimate elopement or a reception with fifty or more of your closest friends, we have wonderful venues at our Texas vacation ranch. Say your vows in an intimate garden, in the Gazebo at Enchanted Lake, or under the capacious canopies of our ancient live oak trees. Host your reception nearby at Carol’s Cat Spring Restaurant or at the ranch in our spacious show barn (ideal during inclement weather).

Celebrate your wedding at Blisswood.

We have a lot of experience hosting weddings here at our Cat Spring guest ranch. Our wedding packages include the ceremony, minister, bouquet and boutonniere, wedding cake and champagne toast. Some wedding packages include dinner for the bride and groom; and it is always possible to arrange a catered meal by Carol’s at Cat Spring at the ranch.

Will 2011 be the year you marry? If so, please consider Blisswood Texas Guest Ranch for you wedding venue. For more specifics, please contact Carol at 713-301-3235, or email Carol@BlissWood.net.
