A Fun-Filled Getaway in Texas Hill Country

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013

Texas Hill Country is the ideal place for an unforgettable vacation. Not only is it a scenic place to kick back and relax, it also offers plenty of exciting adventures! And when you visit us at BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch, you can have it all.  BlissWood is a great destination for a getaway in Texas Hill Country.

Located in Cat Spring, Texas, BlissWood is nestled right in the heart of hill country. Just an hour west of Houston, it’s the perfect weekend getaway for locals.  But it’s not just Texans here. Folks travel from all over the globe to stay at our one-of-a-kind guest ranch.

Just this past weekend, we hosted a lovely group who travelled all the way from France.  They had a real American adventure and spent lots of time enjoying the great outdoors. They made the most of their visit, enjoying many of the activities our ranch has to offer.  They had a great time fishing in our stocked lake where we offer catch and release bass fishing.

They also had a blast playing games.  They tried their hand at some of our favorites including Frisbee golf and horseshoes.  And it wouldn’t be a BlissWood vacation without some horseback riding! It was a fantastic weekend full of  fun.

And after all that activity, they enjoyed a dinner at Carol’s at Cat Spring Restaurant.  Carol’s at Cat Spring has a menu with something for everyone, but it wouldn’t be a true Texas vacation without a steak dinner!  Our guests loved the ribeye!

Whether you’re coming from near or far, BlissWood is a great place to make some memories with your friends or family.  Plan your trip today!  Give us a call at 713-301-3235 or you can check availability online.  We look forward to seeing you soon!

The Buzz at Our Texas Guest Ranch

Monday, July 15th, 2013

We’re preparing for our first harvest here at BlissWood, but it’s not the usual crop. Just when you thought BlissWood couldn’t get any sweeter, we’re getting ready] to harvest honey! Of course, we can’t take all the credit – we’ve got a hive of hard-working bees here. And if all goes well, we’ll soon have fresh honey available on our Texas guest ranch.

Thousands of years ago in ancient Rome, the historian Pliny the Elder called honey the finest, most health-promoting liquid known to man. It’s hard to believe, but honey does have many proven health benefits. We all know that it’s a tasty natural sweetener, but it’s more than just a sweet treat. Honey contains 18 amino acids, as well as many vitamins and minerals.

Honey is also believed to improve sleep and relaxation and naturally reduce allergy symptoms. It’s even used to heal cuts and scrapes!  With all these fantastic properties, it’s no wonder that beekeeping is becoming such a popular pastime!

It’s a tricky business, but our beekeeper here on the ranch is a pro. Paul Casteig from Royal Ridge Honey knows that in order to produce the best quality honey, it is never heated or filtered during harvest.  And it’s always hand-packed in glass containers and never in plastic.

And to ensure the most natural product, our bees’ territory is free of pesticides, chemical fertilizers, genetically modified crops, and anything else that Mother Nature herself would not approve of.  That’s how we know that you won’t find a purer specimen of the golden food anywhere.

So if you’re looking for a sweet getaway, consider planning a trip to BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch.  In addition to a relaxing stay at our beautiful Texas guest ranch, you might even get to see the hive in action!  Call us today at 713-301-3235 or check availability online.

Whisper to the horses

Horse Whispering at our Texas guest ranch

Horse Whispering at our Texas guest ranch

Once again, we at Blisswood are thrilled to host licensed horse whisperer Janice Terra on May 31, 2009. “Wise Women and Medicine Ponies” will be from 10am until 4pm. This is a great opportunity for horseback riding Houston. The Lady Horse Whisperer will begin with a lecture and will follow with a ground session. After a tasty lunch at Carol’s at Cat Spring, participants will do mounted work, and at the end of the day there will be time for discussion and questions.

Horse whispering is important in a broader context than riding. Janice Terra has said, “When I work with people I say that the horses help people return themselves to themselves.” She goes on to explain that in order for a child who weighs 50 pounds to control a horse weighing 1200 pounds, “neither force nor ‘doormat-itis’ will work…. The horse forces one to walk that thin line of controlling without being controlling. A person will learn to operate from his or her own place of power.”(Quotes from Janice Terra’s website, www.TheLadyHorseWhisperer.com.)

It’s a fascinating way to approach riding and horse whispering. This is just a taste of what will be explored at our tranquil 650-acre ranch getaway near Houston. Plan to spend May 31 connecting with a horse and reconnecting with yourself.

Prior riding experience not necessary. Bring your own horse (Coggins necessary).
Horses are available for $29. After this weekend, you will be ready to return to Blisswood for a trail ride Houston.
