Family getaways at BlissWood Bed and Breakfast

Thursday, October 11th, 2012

The family that plays together – and gets away together – stays together.

BlissWood Bed and Breakfast, our peaceful oasis on a working ranch an hour west of Houston, Texas, is a perfect destination for family getaways and for families gathering for reunions from many points on the map or globe.

It’s a great place to relax and de-stress with family members we see every day – and loved ones we don’t have the opportunity to see often enough. For larger groups, some of our accommodations sleep up to eight or 10.

We offer outdoor activities to suit every member of the family, including hiking, biking, horseback riding, archery and catch-and-release bass fishing.

With busy work and school schedules, you might be hard-pressed to sit down for supper as a family on a nightly basis. On family getaways at BlissWood, you can prepare meals in your house or cottage, or gather the clan for a gourmet meal at the nearby Carol’s at Cat Spring Restaurant. The restaurant is owned and operated by BlissWood owner and host Carol Davis.

To capture your family getaway, consider adding on photos by Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Skeeter Hagler. Prices start at $75.

For those who like to travel with their four-legged family members, BlissWood offers pet-friendly lodging. The only thing we ask is that you make arrangements for your furry friends in advance – and that dogs be on leashes at all times.

Give us a call today at 713-301-3235 to start planning your memorable and relaxing family getaway – be it big or small.

Relaxing at BlissWood

Allison & Sassy Enjoying the Sunshine

This is Real Puppy Love!  A rare family that epitomizes real family values just ended their weekend at our Texas Guest Ranch.   There is real family love that one can feel when around them–both children wonderfully behaved, parents very caring and loving.  Alexis and Allison, you will be remembered! Allison obviously has this special connection with animals, and Sassy our ranch ambassador, quickly knew this and took advantage of it.   Allison is now famous here at BlissWood, and Sassy awaits her next visit.  Alexis and Allison took advantage of our children’s horseback riding and had a great time with our wonderful weather this weekend.  Upon their return home this evening. Mother Lori wrote:  “We are proud of the girls!  We had a great time this weekend; it was the first time for any of us to visit a ranch (except for school field trips).  We really loved riding our bikes and seeing all the animals up close.  Thank you so much for sending the photos as Allison was in tears that she didn’t see Sassy this morning.  We printed the pictures already.  Allison is taking them to school tomorrow – 1st grade.  It’s a great thing that you have done with Blisswood.”   This is what BlissWood is all about–getting unplugged, relaxing in nature, surrounded by our ranch animals.

BlissWood Horseback Ride

BlissWood Horseback Ride

It’s fun and relaxing at BlissWood, whether you are working or playing.  Our BlissWood Crew gets to experience what guests experience at our Texas Bed and Breakfast, and recently our great crew took a long horseback ride and found out why guests enjoy their rides and come back for more.    Memories are made and savored, and especially for one of our crew, Jan from Canada.  She said she will never forget this wonderful experience on horseback, a great Texas memory to take with her on her continuing trek.

Escape from Houston to a Blissful Bed and Breakfast

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Read on for a guest review by Lydia. We are so happy she was pleased by her experiences at our Houston area guest ranch.

The trickle of the waterfall gently lulled us to sleep...

“I just had to take the time out to share with you all just how wonderful my experience was of The Blisswood Ranch B&B in CatSpring, Texas. I live nearby in Houston, Texas and have a hard time finding something so wonderful and so close to home. It was only 60 miles from my front door, and I walked into an Oasis (literally) at this beautiful Bed & Breakfast Ranch Site. On our visit we were greeted by wonderful Emily, who walked us through to our suite. There were chocolate covered strawberries and champagne waiting our arrival. (more…)

Wine Dinners at our Cat Spring Restaurant

Monday, June 14th, 2010

Folks who attended the May 2010 Vintner’s Dinner at our Houston area restaurant enjoyed themselves immensely. Vintners Paul and Merrill Bonarrigo of Messina Hof Winery (about 1.5 hours north of our Texas guest ranch) were on hand to share their wine and their knowledge of wine and food. We drank delicious wine, ate tasty food, learned a lot and had fun to boot.

Paul and Merrill planted their first grapes in 1977. During the past 30 + years they have worked hard to refine and develop their wine; today Messina Hof wine regularly wins awards for excellence in national and international competitions.

The next Vintner’s Dinner will be on July 15, 2010 at 7pm. We’ll feature Cap Rock Winery from Lubbock, Texas. Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to explore Texas wines and meet Texas winemakers.

Destination Dining food writer John Mariani (who has written for Esquire) described our Central Texas restaurant as “beautifully situated in the middle of nowhere, where relaxing is what you do between courses…” The restaurant is rich with Texas country appointments in cedar, cowhide, lace curtains and Pulitzer Prize winner Skeeter Hagler’s autographed photos about Texas Cowboys. Food specialties range from Black and Bleu Filet Mignon to Mango Margarita Shrimp, all accompanied by an extensive and contemporary wine list.

BlissWood Texas Guest Ranch and Carol’s Restaurant are located 60 minutes west of Houston, 90 minutes from Austin, and two hours from San Antonio. Once you get here, it seems like a you’re a million miles from the rest of the world.

Bliss awaits you at BlissWood Bed & Breakfast. To learn more about BlissWood B&B, BlissWood’s Oasis, the ranch and Carol’s Restaurant, or to make reservations, visit www.blisswood.net or call 713-301-3235.

Whether we are feeding the animals in the morning or taking in the sunset in the evening, we are immersed in nature. In addition you will receive a FREE year’s subscription to Organic Gardening, and if you arrive in a hybrid vehicle, you will receive a $50 rebate on your lodging! Call in your reservation by May 31st to receive this valuable offer upon your arrival in our peaceful, relaxing country setting. You might want to add a massage using organic products. See our organic vineyard and visit the local organic vegetable farm (Animal Farm) just down the road from BlissWood. Mention this offer when making your reservations to qualify.

It is spring, and folks are fleeing the city to come to our Texas Bed and Breakfast in the peaceful, relaxing countryside. There is a lot of life right now on the ranch during this period of birth and rebirth. Our morning feeding tours are great hits for our guests, where you can see animals up close and personal at feeding time. Plan on participating when you come out to the ranch to celebrate the earth.

Texas Bed and Breakfast: More Spring Babies

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Nature just keeps giving us more little surprises around the farm! These guys are REALLY cute! Here at Blisswood, we wanted to make a Texas Weekend Getaway that would be able to please families, couples, and friends too. So we keep lots of animals around, because this is a farm and doesn’t love baby animals, right?

We have nine vacation-rental style homes on the ranch; each with its own unique appeal. Some, like the Writer’s Cabin, are single bedroom and hidden back among the live oaks to make for a very romantic setting. Others, like the Sullivan House, have three bedrooms and can sleep up to eight.

We also offer a variety of specials and packages to enhance your visit to Blisswood B&B and add that extra charm. For a Texas Romantic Getaway, consider adding a “romance package” to your accommodation. It includes fresh flowers in your room, a chilled bottle of champagne with glasses to keep, chocolate covered strawberries and a cheese plate. You can also order a romantic dinner for two from Carol’s at Cat Spring and have it delivered to your room at Blisswood.

These are just a few of the wonderful amenities and additions we have here at Blisswood that makes us one of the best places to visit near Houston.

Texas Bed and Breakfast: Two Weeks Till Spring!

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

We have another adorable member of the Lehmann Legacy ranch family! This little guy is one of our miniature donkeys. We have a lot of animals around the farm, so be prepared for some fun when you come to Blisswood for your Texas Weekend Getaway!

I’m not sure how much you know about the Hill Country of Texas, but it is an amazingly beautiful area of the state and the nation. We have rolling hills and spring-fed lakes and rivers. In the summer time enjoy cool rains that stir up dust and cool off your skin. Watch lighting roll across the landscape and cuddle with your loved one during the thunder! Then, the next day, take a horseback ride and explore the landscape. All part of a Texas Romantic Getaway at Blisswood Bed and Breakfast.

With so much to look forward to, what are you waiting for? Use one of the links above to explore our site, or, explore what Blisswood at Lehmann has to offer as an outdoor Texas wedding location.
