Celebrate Texas Wineries

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Texas has a thriving wine industry that has been growing steadily and gaining acclaim over the years. Once considered home to sweeter wines, Texas is now recognized as having ideal conditions for a wide variety of grapes; it therefore produces a wide variety of fine wines. We are planning to celebrate Texas wine on September 30 at our fine dining restaurant adjacent to our Texas Guest Ranch.

Fall Creek Vineyards was established in 1975 by Texas businessman/rancher, Ed Auler and his wife, Susan. The vineyards are located eighty miles northwest of Austin in the Texas Hill Country where the sandy loam soil, warm days and cool breezes off Lake Buchanan provide an excellent microclimate for growing premium wine grapes.

The inspiration for the winery came in 1973 when the Aulers, on a trip to France, noted remarkable similarities in the soil, terrain and microclimate of parts of the French wine country and their own ranch. “I became convinced that certain parts of the Texas Hill Country would be ideally suited to grape growing,” says Ed.

He was right. Anyone who enjoys wine wouldn’t think of visiting parts of Texas without stopping by at least one winery, and there are many “wine trails” that will lead happy tasters to one winery after another.

At the end of September, spend a night or two at our Central Texas lodging and join us for our celebration of Texas wineries in general, and Fall Creek Vineyards in particular. For $79 per person you will enjoy six courses superbly paired with Fall Creek wines. Plan to stay the night at our guest ranch near Houston, so that you can sit back and allow yourself to relax and enjoy each sip. Then stroll back to your private cottage under the huge Texas sky. This could just be the makings of an ideal romantic getaway.

Texas Bed and Breakfast: More Spring Babies

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Nature just keeps giving us more little surprises around the farm! These guys are REALLY cute! Here at Blisswood, we wanted to make a Texas Weekend Getaway that would be able to please families, couples, and friends too. So we keep lots of animals around, because this is a farm and doesn’t love baby animals, right?

We have nine vacation-rental style homes on the ranch; each with its own unique appeal. Some, like the Writer’s Cabin, are single bedroom and hidden back among the live oaks to make for a very romantic setting. Others, like the Sullivan House, have three bedrooms and can sleep up to eight.

We also offer a variety of specials and packages to enhance your visit to Blisswood B&B and add that extra charm. For a Texas Romantic Getaway, consider adding a “romance package” to your accommodation. It includes fresh flowers in your room, a chilled bottle of champagne with glasses to keep, chocolate covered strawberries and a cheese plate. You can also order a romantic dinner for two from Carol’s at Cat Spring and have it delivered to your room at Blisswood.

These are just a few of the wonderful amenities and additions we have here at Blisswood that makes us one of the best places to visit near Houston.

Texas Bed and Breakfast: Two Weeks Till Spring!

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

We have another adorable member of the Lehmann Legacy ranch family! This little guy is one of our miniature donkeys. We have a lot of animals around the farm, so be prepared for some fun when you come to Blisswood for your Texas Weekend Getaway!

I’m not sure how much you know about the Hill Country of Texas, but it is an amazingly beautiful area of the state and the nation. We have rolling hills and spring-fed lakes and rivers. In the summer time enjoy cool rains that stir up dust and cool off your skin. Watch lighting roll across the landscape and cuddle with your loved one during the thunder! Then, the next day, take a horseback ride and explore the landscape. All part of a Texas Romantic Getaway at Blisswood Bed and Breakfast.

With so much to look forward to, what are you waiting for? Use one of the links above to explore our site, or, explore what Blisswood at Lehmann has to offer as an outdoor Texas wedding location.
