Corporate Retreats at Our Texas Ranch Getaway

Wednesday, July 15th, 2015

A great way to keep your team motivated in the corporate world is through corporate trips. Whether you run one office or several – and in different parts of the country – the aspect of keeping your employees on the same page is one obvious benefit of having a corporate retreat. Not only does it re-energize them and give them a renewed sense of vision about your company’s principles, it is simply a great way to bring everyone together.

If you are considering planning a corporate retreat, try to think beyond the typical hotel stay in a metropolitan city. Having a corporate retreat in a remote location, such as BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch in Texas, offers a fresh place to think and recharge your mind.

Texas ranch getaway

Recently, BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch hosted a corporate retreat for a large company with distributors throughout the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela. Fifteen key personnel attended and all left feeling inspired after horseback riding, fishing, trapshooting and playing a few rounds of golf. Not only do these types of corporate retreats bring everyone together – sometimes for the first time – they enable individuals to brainstorm and build rapport.

Here are five ways that corporate retreats can lead to greater productivity for your organization:

  1. Brainstorming: As mentioned, brainstorming face-to-face can be much more productive and beneficial than trying to use Skype or other online meeting interfaces.
  2. Enhances Creativity: Being stuck in a daily routine back on your own turf can make you feel stagnant. Doing the same thing day in and day out leaves little room to expand your imagination. Corporate retreats can lead to those “light bulb” moments as you all contribute your own creative concepts.
  3. Discover Skills: Employees may have hidden talents just waiting to shine. Attending a corporate retreat, particularly at a place like BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch, allows individuals to try a variety of activities that can transcend into the workplace. For example, archery can give you a sense of shooting towards a bullseye to achieve your goals!
  4. Builds Stronger Relationships: When you get to know staff members better, you will find them to be more dedicated to your organization. The corporate retreat helps to nurture and solidify those relationships, which gives you a tight-knit team.
  5. Motivating: Nothing makes your staff feel more invigorated than a corporate retreat, especially after a couple of days of golfing, eating great food, horseback riding, trapshooting, or an old-fashioned game of horseshoes. You’ll find your staff more motivated and refreshed after they have a chance to clear their minds of the problems they face back at home.

5 Ways to ‘Pop the Question’ :: Texas Dude Ranch

Monday, May 18th, 2015

BlissWood B&B Ranch is a perfect romantic getaway. Located on 500 acres of Lehmann Legacy Ranch in Cat Spring, Texas, (about 58 miles west of Houston) lies a hidden gem, known for its ability to cultivate bonfires in romances of all ages and stages.
Only an hour’s drive from Houston, this comfortable bed & breakfast inn is a beautiful setting and a blissful escape with a plethora of amenities and activities. Whether it’s just a weekend getaway for parents of young children who need quiet time to reconnect, or a long ‘staycation,’ for that 40th Anniversary celebration, BlissWood B&B Ranch has all the romantic settings a couple could ever need to form precious romantic moments that will last forever. BlissWood enjoys seeing couples of all ages at their Texas Ranch, however, they take their greatest pride and joy in seeing young couples get engaged at one of their romantic settings. Just in case that sounds like something you or someone you know would enjoy, here are five helpful ideas that you might use to ‘pop the question’ this year at BlissWood B&B Ranch.Texas Proposals

1. Play Cupid with Bows and Arrows (just don’t really shoot her)
Have you ever had a chance to use a bow and arrow? Have you ever wanted to learn how? Sure you have. And the truth is, so has she, she just may not know it yet. Women love to prove that they can do all the same thing Men can do. So let her feel good about herself and have a ton of fun doing it! Archery and romance go together like Robin Hood and Maid Marian. Play Cupid by writing down your proposal, attaching your note to the arrow when she’s not looking, and firing. Then when he goes to reclaim the arrows from the target, she can read your note. Just try to hit the target Romeo.

2. Go on an Enchanting Picnic at Enchanted Lake
When’s the last time you relaxed and went on a picnic? If you’re like most people, probably sometime in the 90’s. That’s why it’s something that will leave an impact on her and is truly the perfect mood setter to ask her to be your life partner! Is there a more romantic setting for a picnic for two than in a gazebo overlooking the sparkling waters of the well-named Enchanted Lake? BlissWood B&B Ranch even has a special proposal package that includes a guided horseback ride to Enchanted Lake, where you’ll find a picnic waiting in the gazebo, along with chocolate-dipped strawberries, flowers, and a golf cart. Your guide will discreetly lead the horses away while you enjoy a romantic picnic for two. After she’s said yes (because she’d be crazy not to, right?) you can take the golf cart back to the barn where you started.

3. Propose Over a Candlelight Dinner and Watch Her Light Up
Carol’s Restaurant offers delicious meals and friendly service. You can eat there and propose over dessert. For an intimate dinner for two, uninterrupted by other diners or too attentive waiters, you can even have dinner from Carol’s Restaurant delivered to your lodging if you want to make the evening even more intimate… Drop the Ring down into her champagne glass to surprise her or be traditional and get down on one knee. (Go on! Get down there and win her heart!)

4. Let Nature Sweep Her Off Her Feet
From the wildflowers to the wild deer, it’s hard to beat the Texas hill country for natural beauty. Whether you’re riding horses together, hiking, or sharing a canoe, the fresh air and beautiful setting will relax you both. You don’t want to be nervous when you propose, especially if you’re canoeing together. You might drop the ring in the lake.

5. Ride Away Together (Just Come Back Please)
BlissWood B&B rents horses or permits guests to bring their own horses. Imagine riding into the hills. Maybe she thinks you’re just out for some exercise. Maybe she thinks you’re birdwatching. And then, when you find the perfect romantic spot, you ask her.Horseback Riding in Texas

BlissWood B&B Ranch also hosts weddings. How convenient to have your wedding at BlissWood, wave goodbye to your guests, then stay for your honeymoon. Good luck and happy hunting, all you singles out there. Book your stay today! 713-301-3235

Texas Bluebonnet Wine and Cheese Trail :: Texas Vineyards

Tuesday, March 17th, 2015

Discover the marvelous vineyards in Texas this Spring through the “Spring Bluebonnet Wine and Cheese Trail”. For three weekends on March 28-29; April 4-5; and April 11-12, 2015, the majestic viticulture of Texas winegrowers opens up the taste buds of local wine lovers from near and far.

Although lesser known than wine regions like Sonoma or Napa Valley, the vineyards in Texas produce some downright delicious wines. All dependent on the finicky weather of winter, the crops may be large or small from one year to the next. In fact, Texans have been producing wine for centuries, perhaps longer than any other parts of the country. Its temperate weather gives way to many renowned Portuguese wines, stemming from the long heritage of the Spanish missionaries who once settled nearby in the mid-1600’s. There are at least 36 different types of grapes grown in TX, with many being state natives. Taking part in the Spring Bluebonnet Wine and Cheese Trail is a great way for Texas wine connoisseurs to take visit local vineyards, while enjoying the blooming countryside of a more rural part of Texas. Several wineries in Brenham, Texas offer boutique wineries, with seasonal varietals that can only be found in the Lone Star State.

Texas BluebonnetsAbout the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail

Upon arrival of the first winery, each ticket holder receives a commemorative wine glass. Bring this to all of the tastings on the wine trail. There are many fun things to do along the way, including grape squishing and stomping, vineyard tours, musicians, mystery dinners, and much more. Ticket holders also get to take home a small packet of Texas wildflower seeds to spread some natural beauty to your outdoor habitat.

If you happen to make it through all 7 vineyards, you are indeed a trooper and bonafide wine aficionado. You will also receive a special Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail commemorative keepsake for visiting all of the vineyards. Don’t worry; you do not have to do it all in one weekend! As a ticketholder, you can visit any of them on any weekend mentioned above. You have six days to see them all, so you can choose when and where you want to start and end your wine trail adventure.

Consider a Different Kind Trip this Spring :: Spring Break in Texas

Wednesday, March 11th, 2015

Whenever the words “Spring Break,” are mentioned, most people think of destinations like Las Vegas, or Florida cities like Daytona Beach, Sanibel Island or Miami Beach. Foreign locations like Cancun, the Virgin Islands or the Bahamas also seem appealing for those who want a reprieve from the cold weather or hard-hitting snow storms we’ve had this season.

Those are great, but…

There is a new trend in spring break vacationing. Locations like Fort Lauderdale have given way to modern hot spots such as South Padre Island, Texas, California and other lesser-known destinations. Some people don’t want to fight the crowds at the airport or to go through the hassles of traveling to these temperate climates. In Texas, BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch makes for a wicked fun vacation without breaking the bank, and without worrying about wearing extra layers of sunscreen.

Family vacations in Texas

Sure, we get our fair share of hot weather. Just west of Houston BlissWood Bed and Breakfast offers plenty of fun activities for those who enjoy a less populated spring break destination. Tranquility, peace and lots of outdoor activities make this a really fun place to visit.

Sure, South Padre is ranked by many magazines and online travel blogs as the current No. 1 Spring Break destination, but if you’re looking for more than beer, booze, boys, babes and beaches, look about an hour west of Houston to a little town called Cat Spring. Our big vacation ranch offers a lot more bang for your college student buck. Or if you have a family, the last thing you want to do is bring the little ones to a place where the college kids are going.

Your kids will remember this spring break forever. Make it a tradition!

BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch sounds quaint and small, but this working ranch boasts 500 acres of activities, history, excitement, fun, luxury, and plenty of fuel for lasting memories.

Start with a natural, outdoor-free range zoo where visitors can see (and get up close and even pet in some cases), diverse animals including miniature donkeys, goats, fallow deer, Black Buck antelopes, peacocks, cattle, bison, horses, and other animals and birds too numerous to list. Let’s just say that if your kids love animals, they will love our ranch. This is also an ideal region to hike, bike, nature walk, or just take in the sights faster by renting a golf cart.

Looking for more ‘active’ activities? How about mountain and trail cycling, hiking, archery, bass fishing, trap shooting, horseback riding, guided tours, golfing, and even hot air balloon rides.Dude Ranch near Houston

When it comes to lodging, BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch is on par with the finest four-and five-star hotels in the country, offering nine various types of accommodations. From the small and simple one-bedroom, enchanted cabin that sleeps a party of three, to several Oasis bungalows or suites sleeping two, our smaller accommodations are “just right.” If your family or group of friends needs a bigger space, the spacious four-bedroom Lehman house holds as many as eight. Plus, we have a three-bedroom ranch studio that can sleep as many as eight, or the two-suite, dog trot house which can comfortably sleep ten. There are many other options in between; including the two-bedroom Texas farmhouse, the two-bedroom log cabin, the Bluebonnet Bungalow, and the newly-added garden cottage. Lodging ranges in price from $149 to $419.

Food is another added plus, as Carol’s Restaurant stresses casual dress, while providing “fashionably classy” food including steak, pasta, seafood and chicken. Carol’s offers several ‘signature dishes’ that you won’t find anywhere else, which gives your Spring Break an extra special touch. It’s not surprising that Carol’s — despite being in the “middle of nowhere” has gained national notoriety, popularity, and raves from many food critics, magazines and blog writers.

BlissWood Bed and Breakfast Ranch is very close to two state parks — Stephen F. Austin and Washington-on-the-Brazos — and several historical and cultural attractions as well as many antique shops. So you can make your Spring Break very educational for the kids, as well!

Before booking a traditional Spring Break trip with four-to-six-people crammed in a hotel room near a noisy, jam-packed beach, take a look at BlissWood. Just as the name suggests, our location is decidedly different, and a great value for the endearing memories it will bring. You can even bring your Furry Family, since BlissWood is Pet Friendly!  Book a stay with us by calling 713-301-3235 to check with us on dates and availability.

You will find a variety of animals, such as Angus cattle, horses, miniature donkeys, peacocks, American Bison, black buck antelopes, fallow deer and native deer. Even the furnishings have character. For instance, the writer’s cabin used to be a hunter’s shack and features an old Confederate desk that was carried around by Confederate Army soldiers and used in the field. There is plenty of history here, tracing back to German settlers in the 1830’s.

With nine lodging options ranging from intimate, one-bedroom cabins that sleep one to three people; to entire, two-suite houses that can comfortably sleep ten, there is comfort waiting for any size group. We welcome brides and grooms to be, and their wedding party or relatives, to come unwind and enjoy yourself before the wedding day. Our historic ranch and its sweeping grounds is ideal for hosting corporate retreats, honeymoons, elopements, formal weddings, overnight stays and family vacations.

Lie on the grass and watch the swans and ducks swimming in the pond. Or, kick it up turn-of-the century style with a quiet evening staring at the stars on the porch. When was the last time you relaxed so much?

Want to get up close and personal with the animals?  You’ll have plenty of chances with the miniature donkeys, peacocks and American Bison roaming our grounds. The Bison are part of our culture and heritage. Your kids should get a chance to see these magnificent beasts, which were once nearly extinct.
